Do Random Surprises Help Boost Employee Morale?

Our Instagram story gives you a peek into our day-to-day office life, and surely, you’ve seen some out of the ordinary activities on our social media. Did you know a lot of those activities are connected? That’s right! Our Operations team created an ongoing internal employee morale campaign called Random Acts of Fun, or RAOF.

RAOF was created because the Operations team had a goal of ensuring our team truly lived our motto of Work Hard, Play Hard. They decided there was no better way to do this than to create both surprises and planned team activities; and hence, Random Acts of Fun started popping up around the office. One of earliest RAOF was in the form of hidden Easter eggs around the office—some of which we are still finding today—for a grown-up Easter egg hunt. Another involved the Operations team arranging for a masseuse to come into the office after SXSW 2017 and treat each RVE’er to a massage in a conference room turned relaxation room. And another was a surprise iced tea station on National Iced Tea Day, complete with flavor infusions and a photo of Ice-T. RAOF clearly runs the gamut of ideas, treating the team to different fun activities when we most need them.

These Random Acts of Fun are crucial to our culture because they boost team morale and keep spirits high. We work extremely hard for our clients’ events, while our culture is light and fun; so RAOF mirrors that and enhances it. We’re lucky to have an Operations team that always keeps their ears to the ground and goes out of their way to make it happen. They always make sure that we Outplan. Outplay. Outparty!
