Make a Splash this Summer in Austin

Summertime is upon us, Austinites! (No, not Willie Nelson’s 2016 album.) Can you feel it? The hot sun, longer days, First Fridays over at Domain NORTHSIDE. The energy in the city seems to change after Memorial Day Weekend, so slow down, sit back poolside and enjoy the glory of a Texas summer.

Blues on the Green is back at Zilker Park! Once a month from May through September, thousands of people leash their pups and throw down picnic blankets to enjoy free summertime concerts. Don’t miss Grupo Fantasma with Hard Proof at the next Blues on the Green on June 14.

If the mermaid life is more your style, the always-popular Jaws on the Water is sure to get you hooked. Lounge on a shark-themed tube on the waters of Volente Beach as JAWS plays on the big screen. You’re sure to have a good time, while also wondering what’s creeping in the waters just below your feet.

Less adrenaline more your thing? Try a more relaxed water experience by traveling out to a local swimming hole, like Deep Eddy. The similarly-named vodka distillery named itself after this historic landmark, paying homage to the oldest swimming pool in Texas. If you want to drive a little further, try out Wimberley’s Blue Hole. It has something for everyone: swimming, jumping off rope swings, and a lazy river float. What more could a person want?

One of the reasons we love this city is because we can enjoy the great outdoors year-round. Although some people might shy away from our triple-digit summer temperatures, we sure don’t. Instead, we embrace them—and just incorporate a little more water than other places. What do you love to do in an Austin summer? Tell us below.
