RVE’s SXSBest 2017
Every March since 1987, thousands flock to the place we’re lucky enough to call home for the latest in the tech, film and music industries. While this year was slower for local event planning firms like us, it gave us the opportunity to experience SXSW largely as an attendee. Here are our favorite activations from SXSW 2017:
Beyoncé Photo Booth at Mashable House
Festivalgoers had the chance to recreate Beyoncé’s pregnancy announcement with a floral backdrop and veil at Mashable House. Considering the iconic photo was posted only 6 weeks ago, we were so impressed with how quick Mashable House could turn that around! Check out our very own LeeAnn channeling her inner Bey.
The Handmaid’s Tale Walkers
If you were out during SXSW Interactive, you probably saw this group of women dressed in red, wearing white bonnets, walking in solidarity on the streets of Austin. They were out to promote the upcoming TV series The Handmaid’s Tale, based on the book by Margaret Atwood. Based on the social media buzz they received, I’d say they made an impression.
Spredfast Social Suite
Always a favorite of ours, Spredfast’s Social Suite this year was impeccable. One of the activations was a milkshake photo shoot. We picked out of two choices of shake, then photographed it in front of Spredfast’s various backgrounds. Austin food blogger/Instagrammer @Juliet_Ate_Romeo roamed the Social Suite educating attendees on how to take better photos of their shakes. We’re proud of our creation! The Social Suite also hosted official SXSW sessions discussing the best social media and content strategies. If you missed it this year, they’ve recapped their coverage here.
Aaron Franklin at the Yeti Flagship
It’s no secret that we love our local Austin businesses. So it shouldn’t be a surprise that Aaron Franklin cutting and serving his own barbecue at the brand new Yeti Flagship made our list of favorites! SXSW brings in companies and people from all over the world, but having this uniquely Austin activation was special. If you’re curious about the team of Yeti and Franklin, read his Yeti story.
Twin Peaks Pop-up Diner
The following of cult mystery show Twin Peaks was rewarded with a two-day pop-up of the Double R Diner, the show’s restaurant. Showtime brought the diner to life on Rainey Street with a replica sign, red and white checkered floors, neon ceilings and waitresses in the same garb as the show. Plus, Voodoo Doughnuts lent a hand by creating Twin Peaks-inspired doughnuts. We thought this pop-up was flawlessly executed, and really raised the bar for pop-ups next year.
