Howdy. Hello. Welcome! A Comprehensive History of RVE
The pineapple is a traditional symbol of a welcome expression. It represents hospitality and friendship. In the early days of the American colonies, placing a pineapple at a gathering was an invitation to share food, drink, and good times. Now, the meaning has evolved and symbolizes going above and beyond for guests, something that Red Velvet Events strives to do with every program.
Fourteen years ago, Cindy Lo was on a mission to get more professional experience and land her dream job. With her degree from the McCombs School of Business in hand, Cindy created her own experience (and in turn, her own dream job!) and opened Red Velvet Events in 2002. She didn’t expect to grow the business; rather, she thought she’d use it as a resume booster. Luckily by 2003, her mind changed and she knew that she wanted RVE to keep moving forward.
Dreams don’t come easy, though. Red Velvet Events is built on the foundation of hard work and creativity. Cindy knew that in order to ensure a successful business, she had to employ like-minded people. By 2005, RVE had three total employees! It was a small, but dedicated bunch.
Two short years later, we added our DMC division and moved into a bigger office on Balcones Drive. 2007 also marked our first Esprit Award from ILEA (formerly International Special Events Society)! Winning our first international award gave us the definitive proof that we were giving our clients the best experience possible. This award was the turning point to RVE’s future.
In 2009, we moved offices to our current building, Plaza 7000. The following year, we solidified Austin’s first DMC and hotel partnership to ensure event attendees from across the country really got the Austin experience. Shortly after that in 2011, we added our in-house creative team! Our creatives are the backbone of our work and have elevated our event potential to new heights.
RVE continued to grow over the next three years, planning hundreds of events and creating countless memories. In 2014, we officially joined Global DMC Partners, a network that has allowed us to continue our growth and innovation in the events industry.
Last year in 2015, we met our first yearly stretch goal and took a trip to Cancun as a treat to our team. It was our first time meeting our annual goal and we couldn’t be more proud of ourselves! This year, 2016, we have grown to 24 employees, won GDP Partner of the Year, and will be headed to Costa Rica in December (a month earlier than normal, we have a busy January 2017) because we’ve now met our FY16 stretch goal.
It’s crazy to look back and see where we’ve come from, but it’s important to remember our roots. We’re here now because we don’t take a break from hard work or pushing our limits. We love thinking out of the box and consistently challenging each other to do so. Our team relies on and supports each other. And hey—we’ll never stop outplanning, outplaying, or outpartying!
