What’s In a Name? The Story of RVE

People are always asking me about how I came up with the name Red Velvet Events. Since I’ve gotten so many requests over the years for the story, I thought I’d share it here.

I always knew I wanted to name my company after a color. I knew that would be a great strategy for branding and marketing, and could easily be worked into gifts for clients and colleagues. But, as every entrepreneur today knows, I needed to come up with a name that still had the URL available.

Technically, RVE operated under a different name for about six months. Unfortunately, the original name proved hard to pronounce. A tip from one entrepreneur to another: if potential clients call you and pronounce your company name wrong, maybe it’s not the right name for your company!

I happened to be at a friend’s wedding one night. They served a delicious red velvet cake. That was when I had my “Aha” moment. I put together the idea of “red velvet” with “events,” looked and saw the URL was available, and moved fast and furious to change the name!

Whenever I look back, I can say with 100 percent confidence that I’m happy I changed my company name to Red Velvet Events. It’s worked out great this way – especially since the color red is seen as prosperous in Chinese culture. It’s just one more way that this fun, glamorous name is perfect for a business that knows how to Outplan. Outplay. Outparty!
