Why Austin Is Still a Capital Place to Visit

February 3, 2016 Austin, Destination Management

As DMC employees – not to mention Austin residents – we at Red Velvet Events know firsthand how popular our city has become as a meeting and event destination. But what is it about Austin that keeps it one of the most sought-after cities in the world to visit?

We could write all day about how great Austin is, but we’ve managed to narrow it down to four major points:

  • A Weird Little Oasis. Despite Austin’s growth in the last two decades, the city continues to live up to its slogan of “Keep Austin Weird.” Many large conference groups that pick Austin as a destination want to visit Texas, but are looking for a more unique setting than the megacities of Dallas and Houston.
  • Great Weather Year-Round. With our comparatively warm winters and numerous ways to keep cool in the blazing summer heat, Austin can almost guarantee good weather for your event; just remember 300 days of sunshine.
  • Big-City Amenities, Small-Town Feel. Austin offers the great restaurants and elegant hotels of a major metropolis, while still providing the local eateries, original entertainment venues, and general low-key ambience of a smaller Texas town.
  • Our Brilliant CVB. The Austin Convention and Visitors Bureau (ACVB) goes above and beyond to promote our city as a wonderful place to have a festival or event, no matter how large or small. Bob Lander and his entire ACVB team in particular have been a fantastic partner to work with there. When Bob officially announces his retirement date from the ACVB (he hinted to it at the last annual meeting), we are truly going to miss him, but he should be proud of what he’s brought to Austin, Texas in his tenure.

Whether your group is looking to plan a small meeting or a large-scale conference, Austin just might be the perfect place. Want to know more about how RVE can help you plan a top-notch event that your guests will remember for years to come? Contact us today!
