An Event-Ful Conversation: Kristina

Every event professional at Red Velvet Events is an invaluable part of a dynamic team. In our “An Event-Ful Conversation” blog series, you’ll get to know these amazing people a little better. Learn how they got into this fast-paced industry, how they manage mega-level multitasking and what special skills they bring to the table to help RVE Outplan. Outplay. Outparty!

Q) Everyone has that “Aha!” moment in their life when they figure out what they really wanted to do as a career. What was the first sign that you were meant for the events and meeting industry?
A) I have a background in live theatre, so I love the production and the drama and creativity of events. And performing arts organizations throw some amazing galas and behind-the-scenes events. This job was kind of a natural next step when I realized that special events were my favorite part of fundraising for live theatre.

Q) How did you learn about Red Velvet Events?
A) My friend Liz Lopez is RVE’s program designer. When she heard about another program designer role opening up, she recommended me immediately. I’m a bridesmaid in her wedding this fall!

Q) What creatively inspires you?
A) I still get magazines in their print format. There’s something about touching a glossy page in a food or fashion magazine that leaves a lasting impression and helps you imagine how you could make their ideas work for you. You just can’t get that swiping through magazines on a tablet.

Q) RVE’s love for Austin is well-known. What’s your very favorite thing about Austin?
A) The Alamo Drafthouse has been my second home for many years. I know they’ve opened locations in more than a dozen other cities now, but it’s a real symbol of Austin innovation. I could attend the Big Lebowski quote-along every week, if I had the time.

Q) What is the one place you make sure to take out-of-town guests when they visit Austin?
A) I love to have a leisurely stroll down South Congress, especially taking my guests through Uncommon Objects. For dinner, it’s always Sway or Hai Ky, depending on their budget.

Q) Everyone says they’re detail-oriented. But what secret trait about you really demonstrates your commitment to order and details?
A) I’m obsessive about meal prep. I plan a menu for the week, write a grocery list in order of the aisles in which I’d find each item, arrange my groceries on the conveyer belt at checkout in order of which items need to make it into my house first, and then take it all home and make four or five meals to keep in the freezer.
