Q) Everyone has that “Aha!” moment in their life when they figure out what they really wanted to do as a career. What was the first sign that you were meant for the events and meeting industry?
A) As a child, I loved taking over my family’s dinner parties and always strived to be the perfect hostess. In high school I hosted most of our prom dinners at my house with rentals, catering, and “photo-op” stations. I loved impressing my guests by covering every small detail – from food presentation, to fun and games, to the often overlooked logistics of entertaining. The most important thing to me was that my family and friends were together and having a good time. It didn’t take long before I realized I was destined to be in the business of bringing people together.

Q) How did you learn about Red Velvet Events?
A) I was living in Georgia when my Austin relative told me to look into Red Velvet Events. I figured it would be just another event planning company until I explored their website and social media pages. I instantly got a feel for the company’s culture and mission and knew it was the place for me!

Q) What creatively inspires you?
A) I like drawing on all my senses when I’m experiencing a new scene. I try to consciously think about the objects I’m seeing, the sounds I’m hearing, even the smells, etc. and think about how they collectively make up my environment. I like the thought of being able to design ‘experiences’ rather than just ‘events’.

Q) RVE’s love for Austin is well-known. What’s your very favorite thing about Austin?
A) My favorite thing about Austin is that everyone you meet actually wants to be here. It’s a place where people are fully intentional with what they’re doing here. No one gets stuck in Austin. People are here because they didn’t want to be anywhere else.

I also love how much nature we have right at our fingertips. A lot of other cities have to compromise on that; we don’t.

Q) What is the one place you make sure to take out-of-town guests when they visit Austin?
A) Probably South Congress Ave. There’s tons to see and do and you have a great view of downtown. With a growing and ever-changing city, I’m still finding my favorite places!

Q) Everyone says they’re detail-oriented. But what secret trait about you really demonstrates your commitment to order and details?
A) I used to be obsessive over organizing my planner. It was color-coded and mapped out down to each minute of my day (including how long I was allowed to shower for!). The phrase “we’re right on schedule!” was a mockery to my family and friends. Now I’ve moved on to paperless agendas so I don’t spend nearly as much time with colored pencils as I used to 😉
