Golf, spa treatments, fine dining & more: all in your own backyard at these hill country resorts
If you live in Austin and are looking for a relaxing staycation weekend, or are visiting town and want to experience a Hill Country resort, it’s worth considering both Omni Barton Creek Resort and Spa, located in Southwest Austin, and Horseshoe Bay Resort in Horseshoe Bay, about an hour away from Austin.
Both these resorts are excellent venues for corporate events and retreats. Red Velvet Events has partnered with each location for many unique and memorable events.
If you’re ready to golf, swim, play tennis or just get a massage, here’s where to start:
Omni Barton Creek Resort and Spa
Located only 15 minutes away from downtown Austin, Omni Barton Creek Resort and Spa is a golfer’s paradise, with four distinct golf courses for its guests. Crenshaw Cliffside, Fazio Foothills, Fazio Canyons and Palmer Lakeside are the premier courses. Golfers can take instruction at the on-site golf academy.
Guests can enjoy the resort pool and a wide menu of spa services at the Three Springs Spa.
During a recent visit, we saw both corporate and personal events. At the Three Springs Spa, a bride brought her mother, sisters and bridesmaids for a spa day before her big wedding.
Elsewhere at Barton Creek, business people gathered for a group lunch, while others took to the immaculately groomed golf courses.
Nature trails, fine dining and on-site shopping complete the resort experience. You’re close to downtown Austin, but looking out over the rolling hills and enjoying the quiet, you feel like you’re miles away.
Horseshoe Bay Resort
The one-hour drive to Horseshoe Bay Resort from Austin takes you through many scenic miles of Texas Hill Country. The resort itself offers many fun activities on nearby Lake LBJ, from banana boat rides to fishing tours and sunset cruises.
Golfers have an array of courses to choose from, including Apple Rock, Ram Rock, Slick Rock and Summit Rock (which is known as one of the best new golf courses in the United States, according to Golf Digest magazine.)
Horseshoe Bay Resort also features the charming and pretty Whitewater Course in miniature, a mini-golf course on Bermuda grass surrounded by waterfalls. This 18-hole, par 72 mini-course is scenic and perfect for families. Parrots and flamingos add to the tropical atmosphere.
In addition to many different meeting rooms, the resort also has a yacht for rental, available for private events. The yacht has a 52-foot-long deck, three full-service bars and a music system.
The Bayside Spa, located at Horseshoe Bay Resort, offers many spa services. While staying at the resort, many guests also enjoy touring the Texas Hill Country wine region. Many wineries are located nearby, and the hotel often organizes tasting tours. While many visitors enjoy Austin’s charms, it’s well worth the time to take a trip farther into the Hill Country.
