The ABC’s of RVE – J, K & L
As Austin’s premier events planning company, Red Velvet Events knows what it takes to succeed in the industry. A big part of our success is about giving our clients what they want, to the letter! And that got us thinking about the ABCs of RVE and professional event management. This is the latest in a series of posts which we hope will spell out success in this business – from A to Z!
J is for Jello.
Yep, that’s right. “J” is for Jello! Blame it on RVE’s owner Cindy Lo who is determined to host an event that includes a few giant tubes of Jello. “Jello is versatile,” Cindy says. “It’s jiggly, it’s low-fat. And, if you do the mold right, the Jello will appear to be floating there in mid-air!” While no client has signed off on the idea just yet, Cindy is hopeful. It’s less about the Jello and more about big, bold, unique ideas! Creativity is key to event planning success.
K is for Killer Instinct.
A killer instinct is defined as “a ruthless determination to succeed or win.” The fact is, the event planning industry can be a cutthroat business sometimes. You have to have a thick skin. You never want to sacrifice your integrity to secure a client. You do, however, want to be better than your competition, be laser-focused in the execution of any event, and you never want to settle for less than the best the client’s budget will allow. (Also, when you’re exercising your killer instinct, use common sense, be courteous, and treat people with respect.)
L is for Luck.
Let’s be honest. Planning events is hard work. But, a lot of what happens is also about luck. Many times, a successful event planner happens to be in the right place at the right time when a great job just falls in her lap. Still, luck means little if you can’t recognize a good opportunity. Even when you’re not officially “on the clock,” a successful event planner will always be open to business possibilities.
