Finding your way through City of Austin regulations

July 16, 2014 Austin, Ideas & Inspiration

Austin is a unique and invigorating city. Your guests are excited to sample everything Austin has to offer, from live music to Tex-Mex, Hill Country wines to some of the best barbecue in the country.

But it’s also a city with many laws and requirements for special events. And these regulations are constantly changing.

Cindy Lo and the rest of the Red Velvet team know all about the latest changes to city statutes. Cindy regularly attends ACE meetings, including the one held this week.

What is ACE?

The ACE, or Austin Center of Events, was created by the City of Austin as a collaborative office coordinating personnel from the transportation, music, police, fire, and EMS departments. ACE is supported by staffers from other areas of city government, including the code compliance, health and human services, and parks and recreation departments. Many types of permits are issued on a first-come, first-serve basis.

If all this sounds confusing or intimidating, don’t worry. With many years of experience, the Red Velvet Events team will make sure you have all the steps covered. Starting with the Austin Center for Events application, and continuing through with any arrangements you need for security, emergency medical services or permits for live music performances, our staff will take care of the process for you.

Austin has many beautiful outdoor locations which would be a great setting for your event, or make a nice outing for your visitors during their time in our city. Two you don’t want to miss are:

The Zilker Botanical Garden.

Frequently called “the jewel in the heart of Austin,” Zilker Botanical Garden consists of 26 acres near Zilker Park. Rose, herb and Japanese gardens are interconnected with streams, waterfalls and ponds. Children love the Hartman Prehistoric Garden, which recreates a dinosaur habitat. The garden is a collaboration between the City of Austin Parks & Recreation Department and the Austin Area Garden Council. Many people have chosen the gardens as the setting for their social event.

The Zilker Clubhouse.

This rustic stone clubhouse, rock patio and spacious terrace is located west of Zilker Park, and is very near downtown Austin. The stunning panoramic view would make a beautiful backdrop for your event. It is quite affordable to rent since it is owned by the City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department. Lady Bird Lake is a short distance away, as is Barton Springs Pool.
