Back to School: The Importance of Continuing Education in Event Planning
In our field, you need to be constantly learning in order to keep up with the trends – and to keep your clients surprised by and delighted with your work. So how do we stay up-to-date in the world of meeting and event planning, where things are constantly changing?
Red Velvet Events employees attend several conferences every year, including the World Education Congress (WEC), ISES Live (formerly ISES Eventworld), the Association of Destination Management Executives International (ADMEI) Annual Conference and many more.
Presenting or speaking at a conference is a great way to get your name out there as one of the leaders in your industry, and to start conversations and potential collaborations with other industry specialists. Cindy Y. Lo – owner of Red Velvet Events, as well as event producer and strategist – has previously spoken at both Eventworld (now called ISES Live) and The Special Event.
Chapter and National Meetings.
Education is everywhere in the forms of chapter meetings. These meetings are great opportunities to learn about cutting-edge developments in the industry, to see new local vendors in the spotlight and to network with your fellow event and meeting planning professionals. Attend as many local, city-level meetings as you can. If you can afford it, we highly recommend attending at least one national meeting per year. (Want to know which organizations count Red Velvet Events as a member? Check out our blog post on industry organizations!)
No matter how long you’ve worked in our industry, there’s always something exciting and new to learn, whether it’s a new technology product or a fun trend. It’s just one of the many reasons we love our jobs!
Are you an event industry professional? What conferences and meetings do you make sure you never miss?
