To close out our three-part DMC blog post series, we’re going to discuss DMC fees and pricing.
You may be looking at contact information from different DMCs and thinking, “Wait a minute. Do I really need to hire this organization? I can do this all myself, can’t I? It’s not like this group has information I can’t get myself for free with a few phone calls and online searches!” But before you throw away that phone number, read the following misconceptions and truths about DMCs and their pricing structure:
A DMC will be twice as expensive as a meeting planner.
Depending on the scale of your event, using a DMC might actually be cheaper for you! Because DMCs work with the same vendors time and time again, they can often negotiate specially discounted rates that other planners can’t get.
Convention and visitors’ bureaus, chambers of commerce and tourism organizations have the same information and connections as DMCs, only they don’t charge you money to use their services.
While these organizations are very knowledgeable about their cities, the responsibility will still fall to you to contact vendors directly. When you start thinking about the number of vendors a 2-day meeting would entail, it can quickly get overwhelming!
A DMC will pressure me to expand my budget.
Actually, a good DMC will work diligently to keep you within your budget while also providing realistic parameters for your event. They will want to win not just your business, but also all your friends’ and colleagues’ business; and that doesn’t happen when clients feel pressured.
A DMC will try to nickel and dime me because I’m not familiar with the city.
